Three Brooklyn-style beef hot dogs grilled, cast iron seared, and steamed with classic toppings

A hot dog is only as good as what's in it. Our Brooklyn Hot Dog Co. Classic Beef Hot Dogs are made from 100% grass-fed beef, seasoned with real spices, naturally smoked, and wrapped in a natural casing for that signature snap. No fillers, no nitrates, no artificial anything — just a pure, clean frank that tastes the way a New York hot dog was always meant to taste. Here's how to cook them right.

Ingredients

  • 1 pack Chop Box Brooklyn Hot Dog Co. Classic Beef Hot Dogs
  • Brioche or potato hot dog buns
  • 1 tbsp butter (for toasting buns)
  • Classic toppings: yellow mustard, ketchup, diced white onion, sweet relish
  • New York style: brown mustard, sauerkraut, diced onion in tomato sauce
  • Chop Box style: caramelized onions, whole grain mustard, pickled jalapeños

Instructions — Three Ways to Cook Them

Grill (Best for summer)

  1. Preheat grill to medium-high. Score hot dogs with 3–4 diagonal cuts on each side — this helps them char and prevents bursting.
  2. Grill 4–5 minutes, turning occasionally, until nicely charred and the natural casing blisters.
  3. Toast buns on the grill 1 minute.

Cast Iron (Best year-round)

  1. Heat cast iron over medium-high. Add a small amount of butter.
  2. Sear hot dogs, turning every minute, until deeply browned on all sides, about 5–6 minutes total.
  3. Toast buns in the same pan.

Steamed (Classic NYC style)

  1. Bring 1 inch of water to a simmer in a saucepan. Add hot dogs.
  2. Cover and steam 4–5 minutes until heated through and plump.
  3. Toast buns separately in butter.

Chef's Tips

  • The natural casing is the key — it gives you that satisfying snap. Don't pierce it before cooking.
  • Scoring the hot dog before grilling creates more surface area for char and flavor.
  • These are already fully cooked — you're just heating and adding texture. Don't overcook.
